DWM 2-22-1 an

I came home from stitch day Saturday in the mood to do something different. I wanted to do something that would use larger pieces of fabrics and I wanted to use up some of those odd fat quarters that are filling up my fat quarter cabinet. I first tried Bonnie Hunters Lozenges but after a few decided that wasn't for me, at least not now. However I had already cut a bunch of 3.5 x 6.5 pieces and I had pulled a black tone one tone and a white tone one tone. So I tried Bonnie's Bricks and Stones. I got carried away making blocks, plus had misread pattern so I made 4 patches until the black ran out and ended up with 55 blocks.

I ended up setting them sideways 5 x 11, still looking at possible borders. I will make a nice little comfy quilt. Not so ugly even though I used a bunch of ugly fabrics.

I didn't really want to put any of that fabric back in the drawer and I had just watched a tutorial on Missouri Star for a quilt she calls Crossroads. So I cut a 2.5 inch strip from those fabrics and have started that one using these same fabrics. I had a charm pack of solid white that I had gotten as a bonus on an order from Missouri Star so I am using that as well.

I am really liking the technique, and it is making up pretty fast. I am also cutting another 3.5 inch strip from the fabrics to make a larger Brick and Stone. That was one of the fastest patterns I used in a long time. I probably have less than 8 hours in those 55 blocks. Just need to make more strip sets for the crossroads quilt and it will move along pretty quick too.

Got to go to work now, so I will post pictures of stitch day later.

Friday catch up

When last I posted I was on vacation and doing some cleaning in the sewing room. I went through a lot of older quilt magazines that I had kept with future projects tagged. I am rather proud of myself I ended up only keeping one out of every six. When I looked at some of the projects I had saved I would just ask myself REALLY? and out it would go. I have given most away to other quilters some just new to the scene. However one magazine I did keep was this Fons and Porter. I have not worked with civil war fabric for quite some time now and this one is one that I had tagged to do. After reading the cutting size of the blocks, if I had not had some 1 inch Thangles this one would have been tossed as well. I just hope I have enough to do the 720 HST's that I need. I may have to make it a little smaller because I only had 3 yards of the setting square and border fabric and it calls for 3 1/4 yards. Hopefully I can cut conservatively enough to make it work.

This was not my original fabric choice, and I even thought about buying something else, but ended up showing Johnny 3 choices and he chose this one. I am glad he did, really liking how it is turning out.

Those that know me well know that I am not one to make all my blocks before putting part of them together. Just can't wait to see how it will look.

Since there may be an issue of enough fabric I thought I would start both ends and just come together somewhere in the middle. Even if I have enough fabric to complete her pattern it is still not a very big quilt.

The pattern calls for a 180 of these little 3 inch finished churn dash blocks. I have about 45 done now and if I can do 10 to 12 a day it won't take long to finish this.

At work yesterday I got a page to call the office. Well, she says my schedule is wrong this week and it is her fault. I was scheduled off Friday and closing Saturday but she had both me and Judy closing Saturday and no one on Friday. So could I change my off day around and work today and be off on Saturday, oh I guess if I have to. Yea right, she didn't know we have a sew day scheduled for Saturday and now I will get to go for the whole day instead of just 2 hours. Sometimes things just work out right! I planned to take my BH mystery to bind but now that I have more time I may carry something else to work on as well.

Happy quilting,

Teresa

DWM vacation

I am on vacation this week and of course have a months worth of work I need to get done. I got a jump start on this little baby quilt last Thursday night.

Worked more on it on Friday. did not realize just how long it would take to cut out and arrange all those little squares.

Finally got it completed as the pattern had it. but decided to add another border of neutrals on bottom and sides so turtle would float.

I still think I need some type of border to make it a little bigger. It is only 34 x 44 now. I am thinking about some friendship stars either all greens or maybe greens and blues, need input.

Another of my goals this week is to clean up my sewing room. Of course one week want be near enough time but maybe I can make a little dent here and there. Found these blocks and a bag of the four patch and half square triangle components that have probably been made 10 years. Going to try to finish this top only need to make nine more blocks to have 30 and then I will put it together. Don't you think it is time?

In between all this in house stuff I need to quilt four quilts for different folks and I have a few of my own I would like to get done. I quilted Donna Nix's mystery quilt last night and all those seams gave my machine a fit with the pattern I had chosen, so when I quilt my own mystery I will use something much easier, maybe just stipple it.

Johnny want's me to totally forget about Hobby Lobby this week and it is great not having to go in to work today which is freight day and my longest day, usually I work 10 hours on Monday some up to 12 hours. However it is hard to not worry what my department will look like when I get back. It was is pretty bad shape when I went in last Saturday and I had only been off one day. Thankfully Jenny Brown is working today and will work next Thursday, Friday and Saturday so maybe she can get it back together.

Wish me luck with all my projects and happy quilting everyone.

Feb. 1st DWM

These little wonky stars are on the design wall now. I have decided to make the baby quilt a little larger, adding another row to the bottom and side. I will then put a white border so that all the stars float. This pattern is from a Missouri Star tutorial, got to quit watching them I want to try too many.

I have the star points made for the other 6 blocks I need to enlarge it.

I also got the borders on Square Deal. I did a wrap around border with four different fabrics. I will use a scrappy binding but still have to make that.

I also finally got the borders on my Bonnie Hunter mystery. Got to make binding and find something for the back but hope to get it quilted in the next couple of weeks. I hope everyone in our stitch group who has done the mystery will bring them to our next meeting. I know Ivy made color changes too and I think it will be great to see all the different looks together.

Made my first embroidery label for the baby quilt from my last post and it was given away last Monday. I really liked how this quilt turned out and will probably do it again.

I was about to forget what I spent the most time on this weekend. I guess it is because I don't have a picture. I quilted a king size quilt for Edna. 107.5 x 107.5 that is the biggest quilt I have done so far.

Working 3 late shifts this week so not sure how much will get done. Hope everyone has a good week.
