In the little sewing time I had yesterday morning inspiration struck. I was mindlessly piecing on the last 10 scrappy trip around the world blocks when it hit me what I would do with the four patch challenge blocks. The Somerville Stitch group has been exchanging four patches made from 2.5 inch squares. There are 18 of us participating so we get 17 different four patches each month and man is it a variety. I have a lot of fabric and have worked in three different fabric stores in my lifetime plus the only shopping I still enjoy is fabric shopping, but there are some fabrics here I have never seen. It was running through my mind what can I do to tie them all together. A Jacobs Ladder with a consistent ladder seemed like the answer. I then had to decide what two fabrics for the half square triangles. I was thinking of several color combinations but realistically had to go with something that was in my stash already. Calculating the number of blocks then the amount of fabric for those blocks I had to find something that I had about two yards each, so I chose a purple and white.
Here is the first block. I think this will pull everything together and give it a cohesive look. Made the second one just to see if it felt right.
I think I should have enough four patches by the end of our exchange to make close to 42 blocks so that I can set them 6 x 7 for a nice size quilt and if you are in this group feel free to borrow the idea.

Hi Teresa,
ReplyDeleteWow - what a great job putting those Jacobs Ladder blocks together. The ladders really do bring all those scrappy blocks together. Good thinking! And from your stash, too - how great is that?!! ~smile~ Roseanne
thank you
DeleteThis block looks awesome! You do nice work.
ReplyDeleteI think your quilt will be lovely when finished. I like a scrappy Jacob's Ladder, too. Also, the only kind of shopping I enjoy anymore is fabric shopping as well.
ReplyDeleteI hope so, thanks
DeleteLove this block! Scrappy fun with swapped blocks sounds wonderful.
ReplyDeleteand everyone is doing a great job on accuracy
