Design Floor Monday

I still have Garden Party on the design wall so I laid these blocks on the floor just to see how things were coming together. On my list of weekly goals yesterday was to cut enough strips for 42 blocks. I had 22 strips sets done in various stages so I needed 20 more.

I got those cut and paired up here. I would like to say that there is nothing in my 2.5 inch drawer longer than 16 inches but I can't. Despite cutting 252 strips from the drawer there is still some long strips left. I brought my laundry basket in and dumped the whole drawer into it so that I could sift through it and get the best variety. I found fabrics that I have not seen in years. I put everything except the smallest pieces that I will cut a 2.5 inch square from back in the drawer and it still looks full, but I do feel better about it now.

I have everything in these strip sets, 30's, batiks, civil war, Thimbleberrys, brights, Alabama prints, Halloween and Christmas. You name it and it is in there. But put them all together and it will still make a pretty quilt. This will be something I can sew on when I just have a short time at the machine or when I just want mindless sewing. Does anyone else need projects like this?

  1. Hi Teresa,
Your linkup to Design Wall Mondays has a typo in it, so people can't link to your blog....it links us to teresaquilts.blogspot.com instead of teresahquilts.blogspot.com, so I think you can edit it to add the h to correct it, or just link up anew.
Would you mind adding a link back to http://smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com within your post somewhere? It helps quilters who check out your Design Wall Monday post to be able to link back to my blog and then look at the next design wall. Thanks!

  2. Your Scrappy Trips blocks look great! I also like to have a simple project all prepped and ready for stitching when I am too brain dead to make any decisions or too tired to do any cutting.

  3. I love your scrappy trips blocks! Yes, I have a machine set up in my living room to work on mindless blocks while the grands are here, or in bits of time in between laundry and cooking. I have my light and dark 2" strip bins set up next to one of my favorite vintage machines, a Pink Atlas, and work on log cabin blocks made with the 8.5" Creative Grids Log Cabin Trim Tool. The first two lap size quilts made from these blocks will go to my next door neighbors and future blocks will be made into quilts and distributed through the quilting ministry I am involved in at church. I love reading about your quilting adventures!
